Join the UCF Alumni Book Club

You're invited to join the UCF Alumni Book Club! In this online community, UCF alumni can connect and enjoy books through online discussions, virtual gatherings, and events. There is no cost to participate - you just have to get a copy of the book to enjoy.

Have questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions section below.

Alumni Authors

Once a semester, the group will select a book written by an alumni author to read and discuss. You can browse the list of UCF alumni authors below.

Have you published a book? Let us know!

Books must be complete and published, and you must be able to provide a link to where the published book is available for sale to the public for it to be considered for the list.

Frequently Asked Questions

The book club will read one book every two months. If you have a little time every week to read, you should be fine. After one month, we will start sharing one discussion question a week on the Facebook page for members to participate. There are no strict expectations on members for this virtual community; if you can't read one of the books then it's OK. If you can only read part of a book and contribute a little to the online discussion then that's OK too.

The book club will be online so people can participate anywhere in the world. We will be offering optional virtual meetups near the end of the two-month period that will be held at different times of the day, on various days of the week. These virtual meetups will be led by anyone in the book club who would like to be a virtual discussion leader. We will poll the group for the most popular times and then see if we have a discussion leader who is available for those times. If we do not have a discussion leader available, or if there is not enough interest, we will not host a virtual meetup that month.

A virtual discussion leader is a member of the book club who has volunteered to lead a virtual discussion for a particular book. Discussion leaders will be responsible for running the book club session and leading the hour-long conversation. This requires not only having read the book, but having a working knowledge of the contents and preparing relevant questions for discussion. Discussions will be hosted on either Zoom or Facebook Rooms. If you are interested in becoming a virtual discussion leader, you can email us at [email protected] In the email, please include your first and last name, and the days of the week and times that you would be available.

No. Participation is completely free for UCF alumni! You are responsible for getting a copy of the book to read or listen to, but your local library should have most books for free.

Members can purchase the book or borrow the book from local libraries.

The book club will have a moderator who manages the Facebook group where discussions occur online. The moderator will pose questions to the group, share relevant articles and encourage conversation about topics in the book. Members will be able to post and share as well. This format allows for ongoing conversation and makes it easy for alumni to connect with each other through Facebook.

We're using a Facebook group to host the virtual book club, so it's easy to connect with fellow Knights. If you don't have a Facebook profile you can make one for free at facebook.com. Just sign up and follow the easy instructions to make your profile.

Click here to join the Facebook group.

Feel free to send an email to [email protected] and we'll be happy to help.
