Meet one of our Knight Authors: Nafije Prishtina ’21MS
Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m a proud UCF alumna who has continued to grow with the university ever since I graduated. My career as an Instructional Technology Specialist allows me to live out the UCF values of scholarship, community, creativity, and excellence every day. Through my work, I help design inclusive and innovative learning experiences that empower others to reach their full potential. Outside of UCF, I’m the founder of ShiningStarsConnect.com, a platform dedicated to helping people “shine from the inside out” by aligning knowledge, purpose, and well-being. My mission, just like UCF’s, is to empower others to live their highest potential.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’m not sure it was a realization, it felt more like an invitation. After hearing my story of escaping my country as a war survivor, many people encouraged me to write it down. In 2009, a Michigan professor invited me to share my story for the book Conflict and Forced Migration, highlighting refugees who rebuilt their lives in the U.S. Writing that story was painful. I cried as I relived moments I had tried to forget. But when I finished, I felt liberated. That process became my breakthrough—it showed me that writing could heal and empower, both myself and others. At first, the word author scared me. English isn’t my first language, and I doubted I could express myself as well as in my native tongue. But I learned that writing from the heart transcends.
What’s your writing process? What inspires your writing?
My writing is driven by my vision to empower one million people through my books, coaching, and training. I think best on paper – writing helps me connect my mind and heart. I’m inspired by what I learn and by the desire to share useful, uplifting knowledge with others. Whether I’m working on a book or a reflection, I write with curiosity, compassion, and my love for personal leadership.
What was the biggest thing you learned during your time as a Knight that you apply to your life today?
UCF taught me the power of interdisciplinary learning – how knowledge from different fields connects to solve real-world problems. The university embodies what a strong community looks like: organized, inclusive, and purpose driven. I carry those lessons with me daily. My UCF experience deepened my belief that psychology, technology, and education together can elevate human potential and create lasting impact.
What was a class or club at UCF that helped you grow as a writer?
During my graduate studies, I spent countless hours reading scholarly articles and writing research papers – experiences that refined my writing and critical thinking. I’m especially grateful to my philosophy and psychology professors, who encouraged deep thinking and reflective writing. Their mentorship helped me find my academic and creative voice.
Who are some of your favorite authors or books?
The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer Power, Force by David R. Hawkins and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. These three books, along with other personal development books, have shaped my perspective on consciousness, energy, and the inner power we all possess to transform our lives.
If your UCF experience were a meme, what would it be?
“Keep shining—there are no limitations at UCF!” Because that’s what being a Knight feels like: limitless potential, endless learning, and a community that keeps lifting each other higher.
Anything else?! What are you currently working on right now?
I’m currently researching mindful designing with AI and collaborating with fellow UCF scholars on projects focused on accessibility and mentorship – two topics close to my heart. My next book will likely bring these ideas together, exploring how designing mindfully with technology and human connection can inspire growth and create a more compassionate future.
