Meet Janay Blakely ’19!

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Janay Blakely, and I am a Miami-based author and poet. As opposed to a beach, I prefer long walks down the contemporary romance section of my local bookstore.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I realized I wanted to be a writer the first time I understood what a book was. I loved the idea that I could use my imagination to create new worlds and people would pay me for the privilege of exploring my creations.

What’s your writing process? What inspires your writing?

I don’t have a formal process. I write whenever I feel inspired although a good walk through my neighborhood does help me when I get stuck.
