Megan Blanco ’07 and Rene Blanco ’06

A Greek Love Story: The little corner of UCF known as Greek Row brought Rene ’06 (Sigma Chi) and Megan (Ries) Blanco ’07 (Zeta Tau Alpha) together in their last year at UCF. The two had known each other for the years leading up to their eventual relationship through mutual friends, socials and events that they attended at UCF before officially becoming an item in late 2005 after Megan attended one of the Sigma Chi formal events.

After UCF Rene and Megan moved to Virginia where Rene attended graduate school at William & Mary. Just after graduation, he proposed before their move to Dallas where the two spent 10 years. Throughout the years the two kept UCF close to their hearts through alumni events in Dallas, returning Orlando for UCF games, traveling to watch the Knights in bowl appearances and to visit with friends that became like family while they were at UCF. Through all of the years it just made sense that eventually their path would lead back to Orlando in 2018.

Since then, the two have become even more involved in UCF. Megan joined the College of Business in 2021 working with the Office of Professional Development and taking on an advisory role for Zeta Tau Alpha on campus while Rene serves on both the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Business and the Accounting Board for the Dickson School of Accounting. They both also mentor students, donate to the UCF Foundation and Charge On Fund and are multisport season ticket holders. They’ve expanded their family welcoming another future Knight (Rylan) to the family in 2020 and she’s just as big of a UCF fan as Megan and Rene!
