When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
What’s your writing process? What inspires your writing?
I would have ideas for the books throughout the day and night. I would put the thoughts in my phone as I had them. When it was time to start writing formally, I would organize my thoughts and create an outline that would lead to a table of contents. Chapter headings and book content. I would check references as needed. I did this over six years while writing the 28-book Scorpions and Turtles series. 3,140 pages in total. I also worked on the narration for the 305-page main book. All 28 books are also available as ebooks. My love of God and my desire to help people worldwide be who they were created to be and reach their human potential while changing this world for the better inspire me!
What was the biggest thing you learned during your time as a Knight that you apply to your life today?
I came to the university in my late 30s, already having had a career in healthcare management. I learned I needed to know much more than I did when I started my undergrad in social work and my master’s in clinical social work, which I earned at UCF with a combined GPA of 3.95. I understand much better now that I must be a lifelong learner because the more I know, the more I realize I know so much less than I need to if I am going to be a positive world changer!
What was a class or club at UCF that helped you grow as a writer?
Every class I took required me to read something someone else wrote. What helped me was the requirement to use critical thinking to seek answers to complex questions
Who are some of your favorite authors or books?
I am interested in books that explore what it means to be human. As you can imagine, that includes all the classics across many disciplines: health, business, theology, psychology, social work, etc.
If UCF had a time machine, what moment on campus would you go back to?
I would start over and, this time, be more vocal in showing my appreciation to all the faculty who shared their understanding of people with me. I carry them with me wherever I go and to this day, can hear their voices directing me as I pursue the complexities of life in these troubling times.
If your UCF experience were a meme, what would it be?
One person can make a difference, but together we can change the world. This is taken from the main Scorpions and Turtles book.
What are you currently working on right now?
I am finishing the last of the 605 human-looking and talking avatars that I created, each containing 1 minute or so of wisdom, which I am dividing into 13 one-hour virtual groups with 80 percent new content for the Scorpions and Turtles 28 books project, and I will use them individually across multiple social media platforms to help spread the word and help as many people as I can. I have a relationship and children’s book in the queue that will be released sometime next year.
Anything else you want to share?
I am humbled and so proud to represent UCF at this event. Thank you for choosing me. I am so looking forward to this wonderful opportunity!
