Our UCF Young Alumni Council’s new Adulting Series just released their the third installment this week, Mixology 101! This evening session was led by alumna Ariel Bruckner ’12, director of beverage for On The Rocks. She taught the audience some bartender tricks and led us through how to make a Knight Cap!

Bruckner has more than 14 years of experience in the food and beverage industry. Her experience comes from the bar and restaurant world with a focus on convention hotels. As the director of beverage, Ariel has created multiple cocktail seminars for clients such as NBC, H&R Block and Evergy.

We were lucky to snag her for an exclusive session with fellow Knights. Here’s one of the two quick and easy cocktail recipes Ariel shared with us:

Grocery List

Thanks to Ariel, we can make the perfect daquiri in a pinch. First, you’ll need to gather the ingredients:

  • White Rum (our expert recommends The Real McCoy)
  • 1 small bottle of either Orange Bitters or Angostura Bitters
  • Ice (lots!)
  • 1 Lime
  • Simple Syrup
  • Strawberries

Mixing Your Knight Cap

Supplies on deck? Great! Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Take two sliced strawberries and drop them in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Next, juice your lime and pour it into the shaker (if you opted for store-bought lime juice, just measure out an ounce).
  3. Muddle that fruity goodness together!
  4. Next, you’ll pour two ounces of rum into the shaker and add ice.
  5. Shake, pour, and enjoy!

Tell Me More!

You might have a tasty beverage in hand, but if you’d like to try Ariel’s second recipe and hear her best bartending tips and tricks, you’ll have to check out the full experience of Mixology 101.

You can watch any session of the Adulting Series at any time on our UCF Alumni Virtual Hub.
